Great Meetup Groups
Even the best meetup needs one very special ingredient--PEOPLE--without whom any meetup is bound to fail. We have been running meetup's in Orlando for a few years now and, at first, it looked like an uphill struggle, finding the right formula that would entice members to come out to play from all the competition of modern life and make it fun enough to have them return is a balancing act.
Firstly you don't want to subvert the whole purpose of the meetup by changing the core values that made you want to do this in the first place and secondly you need to have a passion for the purpose the meetup was created to cater too.
Luckily we both have that passion which we share in different ways and care enough to share with others and provide that platform to allow them to learn more and share with their fellow travelers.
Our formula has evolved over time in many ways, people like to be entertained and will not object if that entertainment is accompanied with a core of educational information so we, early on, decided to look for those people who could fulfill those criteria and, so far, been blessed with some of the most wonderful speakers who love their path and care enough to let others take a peek into their worlds so they can get a taste for themselves.
For those who can't attend the meetup's and maybe have to miss one they really would have loved to have been at we are going to do a monthly page to let them know what happened and link up to that speakers website or email so they can ask questions.
September bought us Skella Bjorn to the Witches meetup who gave a wonderful workshop on Asatru, the Scandinavian pre-Christian belief and practice which covered Eddas, Sagas, Runes and the Scandinavian world view.
At the Pagan meetup the Reverend Spring Raine, who is probably more well known for her Metaphysical/New Age store in Historic Sanford--Elemental Crossings, gave a talk on the home herbal medicine cabinet which gave us plenty of alternatives to expensive pharmacies medicines.
